Green Computing

Why should students "power down" when they get to school?

Today's students are digital natives; they’ve grown up with technology and are instructionally motivated by digital learning. Yet our students remain deprived of appropriate classroom technology because our education system is struggling to provide it.  Recognizing this gap, OneCommunity developed Green Computing to provide refurbished computers to Northeast Ohio schools and enable the 21st-century learning our students so desperately need.

Many Northeast Ohio teachers are forced to do without the technology tools and training needed to prepare students to live and work in today’s digital society. Supported by the George Gund Foundation, Green Computing is a community investment in our children and the region’s future workforce, and a great way for companies and other organizations to have a positive influence on the future of our region.

The Value of a Green ComputerGreen Computing

  • An end-of-lease or "lightly used" computer can open up a world of educational possibilities in a classroom, and deliver the personalized instructional experiences that are necessary for children to succeed.

  • Research indicates more than 50% of high school students will be engaged in online learning courses over the next decade.  Increasing the number of Green Computers available to schools will position schools to expand online learning opportunities to their students.

  • By our calculation, each Green Computer brings more than $1,000 of instructional value to a classroom.  This return on investment is higher than any yield a company can obtain through a computer asset disposal arrangement.
